Adé se fait une petite amie :" When you come back my friend, remember me ".

There is so much to tell about this fascinating country, so many pictures to share ... Here is a small overview of our few days in the valleys of Haa and Thimphu.

While reaching Chele La Pass (3,810m), we came across many monasteries, white stupas (named chortens), prayer wheels powered by rivers. Religion was everywhere, the relationship to God(s), constant. On top of the pass, the view was beautiful, garlands and prayer flags flapping in the wind.

We stopped along the way in the Haa Valley, and had lunch in a farm, warmly greeted by a woman and her mother: butter tea from yack milk, potatoes and chili cheese, generous cuisine from the heart.

We were invited to visit their house, including the room dedicated to religious rituals, that every house, no matter how small, incorporates. Colorful fabrics, murals, red and yellow hangings, drums and bells. This temple is maintained every day, and receives the lama and the monks regularly throughout the year for cérémonies, besides daily prayers.

After a short walk we arrived in our guesthouse, in a beautiful former farmhouse. Simplicity and refinement at the end of the world ... we loved it !

We experienced a wonderful moment in a school where we brought some supplies. Ade made a new girlfriend: "When you come back my friend, remember me." She said.  Moving , with impressive maturity.

Communication was easy because 80% of the classes are in English. Their English is perfect from age 5 and above, which eased communication across all generations, teachers and rare visitors like us.

At our arrival in Thimphu (8000  feet, 100 000 inhabitants), the capital city, we witnessed the final of the Archery Championships .Then we visited the Trashichhodzong Courtyard, where the king and the great religious leader sit together, in front of the parliament.

The next day, we hiked to the Tango monastery, which has a famous Buddhist University.

The next day we spent a great time at Chorten Mémorial . A funeral was held there, and the faithful revolved around the chorten in prayer. Haunting melody of singing monks, incense, prayer wheels. We are definitely caught by the serenity of this mystical and meditative atmosphere.

Before leaving the city, we visited the largest copper Buddha overlooking the Thimphu valley (from a height of 150 feet)! Still under construction, the monumental sculpture was generously offered by a Singaporean. The forehead of the statue is adorned with a 22 carat diamond. This will soon become the place for all major religious ceremonies, possibly even the future emblem of the country.
